Many common plants and fungi in our local forests, meadows, and parks are not only edible but also delicious and nutritious. Wild edibles often contain more nutrition and flavor than their cultivated counterparts, which are often bred for predictability and pest resistance.
Distinguished local chef and forager, Maria Reidelbach will speak about the joy and fulfillment of discovering edible treasures in the wild. Reidelbach has been passionate about foraging since childhood and has spent the last 30 years honing her skills and expanding her knowledge. She is an author, and artist, a former president of the New York Mycological Society, and a cooking instructor for the Cornell Cooperative Extension. This talk will showcase examples of foraged flora and fungi from Marbletown’s new Osterhoudt Park, as well as a curated collection of books on the topic to browse.
